As a UK based, CELTA trained native English speaker, Keith will explore the idea that only English should be used in your classroom.  Is this really possible?  Isn’t translating an important skill? How can we check that our students can understand?  Does avoiding L1 impede progress?

In observing teaching across Russia, Keith frequently sees a very different classroom style from EFL teaching in the UK.  In this short seminar Keith looks at the communicative language used by teachers  and whether using L1 gives educational advantages or disadvantages.

Learning English can be difficult enough for us as teachers and our students, so we’ll look for answers to these and other questions, possibly with some surprising results.
